Lake McDonough (Compensating Reservoir) – Barkhamsted, New Hartford

Lake McDonough is an artificial impoundment of the East Branch Farmington River, owned and managed by Metropolitan District Commission (MDC). Originally constructed to augment flows in the Farmington River for hydropower production, this reservoir is now maintained as a recreational facility.

Regulations:
Species: (T LMB SMB YP CP BNB S)
Other: 10 mph speed limit. Boat launch owned and operated by MDC ($6 parking fee, $6 launching fee). Launch area open 2nd Staurday in April through Labor Day. Weekdays: 10am-sunset, Weekends: 8am-sunset, except 6am-sunset on Opening Day (2nd Saturday in April). Boats must be off lake by 730pm. Shore fishing access from sunrise until 9pm except 6am until 9pm on Opening Day (2nd Saturday in April).
Season: Open from 6am on the 2nd Saturday in April until November 30.
