Effective October 28, 2026
The Fishing CT (thefishingct.com and The Fishing CT app) is run by Fishing Northeast LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect as little as we need to run the service, we never sell your information, and we never see your payment card details.
What we collect
- Account details. If you create an account we store your name, email address and a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google, Google shares only your name, email address and profile photo with us. We never see your Google password.
- Membership and billing. Angler Pro and Merchant plans are paid through PayPal. PayPal handles your payment details. We only receive your plan, subscription status and payment dates.
- Things you send us. This includes listing reports and corrections (with an optional photo), business claim requests, messages and profile details you choose to add, such as your home town.
- Location (only when you ask). “Near Me” and driving directions use your device’s location only after you allow it. Your location is used in your browser or app to sort spots and calculate a route. We do not store it on our servers.
- Basic technical data. Like most websites, our servers and security tools log IP addresses, browser type and pages requested so we can keep the site secure, stop spam and fix problems. We also count page visits with our own simple, built-in statistics — no Google Analytics, no advertising profiles, and no IP addresses are stored with them (visitors are counted with a code that changes every day).
The Fishing CT app
The app uses the same account as the website. When you allow it, the app uses your location on your device to sort nearby spots and show driving directions; it is not stored on our servers. You can delete your account inside the app (Account → Delete my account) or on the website.
How we use it
- To run your account, sign you in and give you access to the plan you’re on.
- To review reports and keep listings accurate.
- To send account emails, such as sign-in links, password resets and receipts (sent through our Google email account). We don’t send marketing email unless you opt in.
- To keep the service safe and working.
We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We don’t share it except with the service providers that help us run The Fishing CT, as needed to provide the service, or when the law requires it.
Service providers we use
- PayPal: subscription payments.
- Google: “Sign in with Google”, if you choose it.
- Maps and directions: OpenStreetMap (map tiles), OSRM (driving routes) and Nominatim (address lookup). When you request directions, the start point and destination are sent to these services to calculate the route.
- Open-Meteo: weather. It receives only the coordinates of the water you’re viewing, not who you are.
- Our web host and security/anti-spam tools.
Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy.
Cookies
We use cookies that are needed for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering basic preferences. Our advertising and security tools may also set cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser, but signing in won’t work without them.
News and outside links
Our news page shows headlines, short teasers and thumbnails provided by other publishers, credited and linked to their sites. When you click through, you’re on their site and their privacy policy applies.
Your choices
- You can view and edit your profile, change your password, or delete your account at any time from My Account. Please cancel any paid plan first.
- You can turn off location access in your browser or device settings at any time.
- You can email us to ask for a copy of your information or to have it corrected or deleted.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information while your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your profile. Reports you submitted may be kept, without your account attached, to keep listing history accurate. Billing records are kept as long as the law requires.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and security monitoring. No online service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
Children
The Fishing CT is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy we’ll update the date above. If the changes are significant, we’ll also post a notice on the site.
