Identification
Metallic blue shark with a pointed snout, large black eyes and long, smooth, curved teeth.
Habitat
Offshore water south of Block Island and in the canyons from June to September.
Behavior
The fastest shark — known for spectacular jumps when hooked.
How to Catch
Shark fishing requires an HMS permit and federal rules apply; retention of shortfin mako is currently prohibited — release them.
